Going digital?
Apr. 11th, 2018 09:17 pmI feel like such a technological dinosaur.
I don't know. Yes, I have a smartphone, but...
My family sometimes seem to be late bloomers when it comes to technology. I got an Atari 2600 in 1983. A Nintendo in 1990 (I didn't beat Super Mario Bros. until 1993). We didn't have a computer in the house until 1992 (a PC, so that kind of cemented things. Like Lutherans and their Fords, I guess. But for the record, we have AppleTV and I have an iPod... which stubbornly refuses to play if I plug it into my car.)
Logged into Newegg to check when I ordered the computer I am using now. I ordered it in 2012. On my birthday. $399.99 (I waited for the price to drop before I made my choice. Up to that point I was comparing prices). The most radical thing I did was to upgrade the RAM from two gigs to eight in 2016 (all the better to play Wildstar with).
Apropos of nothing, I dusted off the Wacom tablet I bought pre-2012 computer but hardly ever used. I don't know. I got it because Scott McCloud uses one... or did. After scanning in pencil drawings. So... um.
I went to Best Buy to browse. I was interested in a touch-screen monitor, but it seems nowadays they are only integral to laptops and "all-in-one" desktops. And of course, I feel like I've only just found out about this Microsoft Surface and Windows Ink. I would open Paint 3D on a random display desktop or laptop and doodle, using either the pen or my finger.
I've seen a lot of artists, manga artists especially (thanks, NHK World!), using tablet monitors almost exclusively.
So... um...
I. DON'T. KNOW.
